8 Signs If Your Job Is God's Will For You

Divine Calling or Just a Job: 8 Signs Your Job Is God’s Will For You

What are the signs your job is God’s will for you?

Imagine waking up in the morning and feeling excited about your work and doing something that suits and makes you happy. Envision finding a job that honors God and fulfills your needs and desires.

Does that sound like a dream? Well, it doesn’t have to be. God cares about us and our work and wants to help us find the right job. He has a plan and a purpose for our lives, and He has equipped us with talents, skills, abilities, and even resources that He wants us to use for His glory and the benefit of others.

But how can we know if we are in the right job according to God’s word? How can we recognize the signs that He has led us to the position He wants us to do?

Using your gifts and talents

One sign that you are in the right job according to God’s word is that you are using your gifts and talents. God has given you unique gifts and talents that He wants you to use for His glory and the benefit of others. He has also given you spiritual gifts, such as wisdom, knowledge, faith, or service, that He wants you to exercise in your work.

When you use your gifts and talents, you fulfill God’s design for your life. You also express your gratitude to Him for what He has given you. Additionally, you are blessing others with what He has entrusted to you. As 1 Peter 4:10 says, As each has received a gift, use it to serve one another as good stewards of God’s varied grace.

8 Signs Your Job Is God’s Will For You

Serving others

God has called you to love Him and love your neighbor as yourself. One of the ways that you can show your love for God and your neighbor is by serving them through your work.

When you serve others, you observe the example of Jesus, who came not to be served but to serve. You are fulfilling the second greatest commandment: love your neighbor as yourself. Besides, you are making a positive impact in the world by meeting the needs of others. As Mark 10:45 says, For even the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve, and to give His life as a ransom for many.

Growing spiritually

A third sign that you are in the right job according to God’s word is that you are growing spiritually. God has called you to expand in the dignity and knowledge of our Lord and Jesus Christ. One of the ways that you can grow spiritually is by applying God’s word to your work.

Growing spiritually, you become more like Christ in your character, attitude, and behavior. Furthermore, you learn more about God’s will, ways, and wisdom. You also develop spiritual disciplines, such as prayer, Bible study, worship, or fellowship, that help you connect with God and His people. 2 Peter 3:18 states, But grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To Him be the glory both now and to the day of eternity. Amen.

Honoring God

A fourth sign that you are in the right job according to God’s word is that you are honoring God. God has called you to do everything for His glory and name’s sake. One of the ways that you can praise God is by doing your work with excellence, integrity, and joy.

When you honor God, you acknowledge Him as the source of everything good in your life. You show respect and reverence for Him as your Lord and Master. Also, you praise Him for all He has done for you. As Colossians 3:17 says, And whatever you do, in word or deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through Him.

Enjoying your work

A fifth sign that you are in the right job according to God’s word is that you are enjoying your work. God has given you the ability to enjoy your task as a gift. He wants you to find satisfaction and delight in what you do.

When you enjoy your work, you are experiencing God’s goodness and grace in your life. You are also expressing your creativity and personality. Aside from this, you find joy and peace in your work, regardless of the circumstances. As Ecclesiastes 3:13 says, Everyone should eat, drink, and take pleasure in all his toil—this is God’s gift to man.

Fulfilling your purpose

A sixth sign that you are in the right job according to God’s word is that you are fulfilling your purpose. God has created you with a plan. He wants you to discover and fulfill His purpose through your work.

When you fulfill your purpose, you are living out God’s design. Undeniably, you are contributing to His kingdom and mission worldwide. You find meaning and significance in your work, knowing it matters to God and others. As Jeremiah 29:11 says, For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and hope.

You are a witness

God has called you to be His witness and His ambassador in the world. He wants you to share His love and His gospel with others through your work.

When you are being a witness, you are shining God’s light in the world. You are also showing God’s character and values in your work. Importantly, you share God’s story and invitation with others through your words or actions.

As Matthew 5:16 says, In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven.

You have peace and confirmation

God has promised to guide you and lead you where you should go. He wants peace and confirmation that you are in the right job. When you have peace and assurance, you have a sense of calmness and confidence in your work.

As Psalm 32:8 says, I will instruct you and teach you where you should go; I will counsel you with my eye upon you.

So, how do you know if you are in the right job according to God’s word? If you notice these signs in your work, you may have a good reason to celebrate and be grateful. But don’t stop there. These signs do not mean to make you satisfied or lazy but to make you thankful and hardworking.

Being in the right job is a gift yet a significant duty. God put you there because He loves you and has a purpose for your work. He has invited you to be His co-creator and agent in the world. As Ephesians 2:10 says, For we are His workmanship created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them.
